Sounds like it could be Achilies Tendonitis. Is it stiff in the morning or after sitting around for a while? Have you recently upped your weekly mileage markedly?

If you go back through injuries section you'll find various threads regarding this. I had it quite badly after starting running but it can be helped with eccentric strengthening excercises

these exercises, i dont get it, so you raise your weight on the good ankle/leg, then lower yourself on the bad one right? Then do 3 15 reps?

I found the excercise I did on the web but cannot find the page now. There were four excercises to do which were basically one legged ways of strengthening calf muscles and you did increasing number of reps up to say 20 or 25 of each with each leg. I didn't do heel raises but the excercise I did were done in three planes - centre, left and right which means you are alternatively suppinating and pronating (I think thats the 'eccentric' bit). Sorry Dd but I'm not a gym/excercise type person and don't know he names of the moves

You 2 lads should have PM'd me, I'm sure I could have found time to lend a hand. Relieving swelling and stiffness at Christmas is a charitable affair.
