So, the Missus and I have this hike in Tasmania to do. They recommend 5 days very minimum, but allow at least 7 as weather can be bad and you can't cross rivers if they are flooded - you just sit in the tent and wait . And there is no habitation till you reach the other end, totally self-sufficient so have to play cautious.
I reckon 3000 calories per day, for 2 persons, for 7 days = 42,000 calories. I'm trying to get close to 350 calories per 100grams carried, which gives about 12kg of grub to carry - I guess that means me carrying it .
Obviously I could just carry a few lumps of lard and lick these all day, but it is a holiday and the Missus would kick up, so I'm trying to combine something both nutritional with a mix of carbs/protein and fat and edible to boot.
Oh yes, and we have to cook it, which means carying the fuel (meths), so I'm working that out as well, to keep weight to a minimum, hopefully 11/2 litres.
In fact I'm quite enjoying this part of the preperation, anyone else done anything like this or have any hints?
