    Bofra

looking at the BOFRA website they have a handful of races throughout the year with the longest at 5.5miles and most a lot shorter.

Are these all straight up straight down eyeballs out affairs. Anyone recommend any?

The photo on the website looks likes a fantastic horror show

I did a whole BOFRA season the year before last and I can honestly say yes! With the exception of Helm Hill maybe, which is more like a hilly XC.

They are amazing little races. If you love steep descents you'll be right at home. If you don't then what better way to practice.

That BOFRA season turned me from a poor descender to an excellent descender in the space of 8 races.

Season starts at Sedbergh around the 20th May next year. That's a good start although you probably won't be able to walk downstairs for a few days after.

There are a load of classic BOFRA races, most of them of the short and sharp variety. There is definately a knack to them. Set off too quick and the lactic hits, too slow and you'll never catch up again. I suppose it's like competing over 5k rather than a half marathon.

A lot of them are at country shows so there is something for the family to do whilst Daddy (or Mummy) is off running. Sedbergh, Wasdale Head, Muker, Reeth or Ambleside are all good days out.

The absolute classics for me are Coniston Gullies, Alva and Wasdale Head. Then again, I prefer my races to be as steep as possible.

Can fully recommend the whole BOFRA setup. It complements the FRA perfectly.
