At Airedale hospital having chemo now Stagger. All as good as we could have hoped. Just been talking fellrunning with another patient. Hope you’re okay
Good to know the treatment is progressing.
All fine here thanks.
Thinking about you mate👍
Obviously I don't know you guys, and I haven't read this entire thread but just wanted to wish you all the best and hope it works Derby Tup!!
Also thanks to Brett for fixing the forum, good job. I was quite confused there for a little while
Thanks DangerMouse. All considered I’ve been lucky. I was diagnosed with a primary tumour low down in my rectum in December plus three or four metastasis in my liver. I had operations in January (key hole resection of rectum at Airedale done by Mr Kahn - a top man) and February (open op liver resection by the legend that is Prof Lodge at the Bexley Wing at Jimmy’s in Leeds). I’ve managed to run a couple or three times a fortnight since about seven weeks after my second op including Parkrun last 17 weeks and four fell races. Support from friends, family, colleagues, customers and running pals has been immense. Stef my wife has been an utter rock. Chemo due to finish end October
A bit of advice especially for any middle aged forum uses (that’s about everyone then). If you find yourself passing blood unexpectedly get yourself off to the GP. If you have the lolly sticks to poo on for testing please get on with it. Similarly if you lose weight and you’re say in your fifties or older also go to the GP. If bowel / colon / rectal cancer runs in your family please get speaking to your doctor and consider a colonoscopy. My GP was outstanding in her manner and follow ups when I presented with prime symptoms of colorectal cancer. Don’t ignore symptoms please - my mum died six years ago from what I had after doing just that

Wow - that's totally amazing that you are running and doing so well - most impressive - long may it continue!
Thank you for speaking about this so frankly; definitely middle aged here (48 trips round the sun and counting), happy to say no blood where there shouldn't be any - thankfully. I definitely won't be ignoring that if it ever happens!

I was a bit of a lapsed runner but we trained for and did a 50 mile LDWA walk last summer. The fitness I had from that has helped plus a positive general outlook. I’ve had some black days but surprisingly few. I’m way too young to just crumble and let it beat me (I’m 55 now). I was also determined to talk about it once everything had sunk in and my diagnosis and treatment plan was in place. If I can help one person overcome their fears and go to get tested I’ll be happy. Cancer is ubiquitous; everyone I’ve spoken to knows someone who’s had it but outcomes and treatments are improving all the time. It doesn’t have to be the death sentence it was in the past
