How is it underfoot just now?
Ground high up was frozen today but no snow only a frost on the ground.
Lower down ground thawing out on top but frozen underneath so nice and slippy.

Started snowing as I dropped down off Whiteside, lots of cloud moving in from the East, turned to rain lower down but I would expect a nice dusting for Friday night

There will be no bad weather alternative so come prepared
    Oh Dear

DETAILED FORECAST for Friday 16th January 2009

    How windy?

Southerly, 30-35mph, but strengthening in afternoon to 40mph, gusts
    50/55mph.
Expect considerable buffeting, especially in the afternoon, and
    significant wind chill.

    How wet?

Showers, then steady rain in afternoon. Snow highest areas
A few clusters of showers will come in at first in morning, then
isolated for several hours, before an hour or two before dusk a spell
of persistent rain comes in. Snow likely above about 800m.

    Cloud on the hills?
    Generally extensive
At first, widespread cloud base 450-650m, highest north Lakes. Cloud
will tend to lift 200m or so by midday, with breaks to higher summits
toward east. But cloud will readily lower again in rain later on.

    How cold?

750m: 2C, but will feel as cold as minus 12 Celsius directly in the wind.
    Freezing level: 950-1050m.

I may be on my own

Could be worse 100mph gusts on Saturday!

Just to sum it up - WET, COLD and WINDY, Finished too late to go to the pub!

But a great evenings entertainment anyway.

No doubt Baggins (an excellent navigator in poor conditions) will write a bit more, this adventure was his idea after all.

Indeed, Bill should tell the tale in his own way.

Wet and windy it certainly was, and we did not make the pub, which was a shame; could have done with a drink after that little outing.

We did visit all the AW checkpoints (in order) with the odd extra bit of no-race ground thrown in for good measure.

A great evening out (thanks Bill for suggesting it) followed by a longish drive home when I managed not to fall asleep at the wheel.

So no photos sadly; couldn't see much anyway and we were a sight you would not want to see...........
