    Question TV Licence Rant

Just received a letter from the TV Licensing people about a TV we bought saying that there is no record of my name with a TV License at this address.

On their website they BOAST about having 28 million addresses on record.

Why can they not see that the license is registered in my partners name??

No wonder the cost of the license keeps going up if they keep sending out all of these needless letters!

    Rant over!

they are assuming the named person has moved address and you are new occupier,or that the property has been converted into flats.

you would be suprised how many people state they do not have a tv,but sadly a lot of them are not telling the truth, which means the genuine people are then not believed.

there are always two sides to the argument

customer svc is going down the pan

I've had 2 letters from TV licensing this last month telling me I don't have a licence (I have!). Have you tried getting past the automated phone service? Nightmare.

Add 2 court summons from Council re non payment of Council Tax (incorrect), plus HSBC cancelling all my direct debits and standing orders for no reason, and also cancelling 2 switch cards, and placing holds on my account (again, no sensible reason, and account in credit?!?!?). I now feel like Victor Meldrew and spend too much time complaining about things.

    Re: TV License Rant

look at address on the letter they sent you and compare to the address they have on the license, are they exactly the same,if not, that may be the root of the problem,
remember there is a lot of address cloning going on.

    Re: TV License Rant

There seems to be a growing problem with TV licencing. They seem to be taking a bit of a heavy handed approach and deeming everyone who doesnt have a licence to be lying. A former work colleague was being hassled for ages - she lives in the middle of nowhere in Scotland and can't even get a TV signal! They told her she had to inform them every 3 months that she still didn't own a TV. Unsurprisingly she told them to get stuffed!

    Re: TV Licence Rant

Just completely ignore the letters. It's the only way, they used to drive us potty (we haven't had a TV up here). You could keep them for a year and then return them with a rude note (and no stampon envelope), but it still makes no difference to the controling computer .
Bin the letters and do nothing. You are right, they are wrong and it is their problem to prove otherwise. If they come round and knock on the door - which they have been threatening to do to us for 15 years and never done- tell them to P**s Off. They have no right of entry and if their detector vans haven't picked up any signal from your house they can do nothing. If you have a licence and TV, stuff it in their faces on the doorstep and tell them again to P**s Off.
Now I feel better, rant over.

actually they can apply to the courts for a search warrant, citing the fact you became abusive and slammed the door in their face.
if you have nothing to hide just invite them in,there only doing a job, face it those who use a tv without a licence are doing so of the backs of we legal users, just like people who drive with no tax or insurance, people who dont pay council tax and shoplifters
all it means is that the financial burden is passed to those who pay!
if i am mistaken it is an offence to install or use a tv without a licence, that is an absolute offence.(think wireless telegraphy act 1949)
that means ANYONE,ie a visitor to your property,a babysitter,a relation.
it is up to the user to produce the licence.
if you do not have a tv why create hassle for yourself and some poor guy trying to do his job!
