Have You Had Your Oats Today?

One of the lads at work reckons a bowl of porridge with milk before a long run gives him the fuel he needs to keep going for ages and ages.

Is this because he is Scottish or does it work for English folk too?

Definately a multicultural thing: I can recommend a bowl of pre training porridge (+ a banana mashed in it, if racing).
Works for me: digestable and good for the energy needed.

half my family is Scottish, so not sure if this counts, however I always have homemade musli in the morning & I have an aptitude at long distance events.

The thing that gets me about cereals is the bloody recommended serving sizes.

Does anyone on here, or in fact anyone over the age of about two, have the recommended serving amount of cereal?

This morning I poured out 30gms of cornflakes in one bowl and 40gms of Alpen in another and both barely covered the bottom of the bloody bowl.

I know this is so they can say how few calories "a serving" contans, but bloddy hell, how do they get away with quoting a totally unrealistic serving size?

Then again, maybe I'm just a fat b*stard.....

...staple pre-Ben breakfast for me and the Wharfedale gang. Mind, it is cooked by a Scottish lady in our B&B so maybe that's another factor to include...?

Coco pops are OK Pengy..... I like the way it says on the box, "Contains 17 servings". For who, a gerbil? You get about 5/6 portions at best out of a normal box.

I think the serving size must be based on one of those little variety pack ones that wasn't even enough when you was at junior school

I've just had a two-person bag of uncle ben's rice for my tea. Seemed like a normal portion to me - and I could possibly have eaten more.

i normally get 5 from the box.. it also varies for what i am training for.. ready break and porridge i don't really like as they have little or no taste even with a load of treacle on top!

next choice of ceral would be shredded wheat 3+ depending on size of bowl..
