Okay,
Us organisers of the inaugural Hit the North didn’t think that the race was muddy enough in the Summer so we decided to organise another one in the middle of winter.
Hit the North – Winter Sprinter is a “Two-hour-plus-one-lap” bike race around Philips Park and Waterdale, North Manchester. There is no restriction on the type of bike as long as it has two wheels and one rider. The course has a bit of everything. Three miles of fast hardpack, woodland single track, tarmac, raised decks, steps and probably quite a lot of mud.
Feb 7th 2009. 10:00am - 12:00 noon, sign in from 8:30am.
In an attempt to keep the costs down there will be no camping or shower, but you will be able to buy some hot food and drinks. They've also booked the local brass band for added Northern ambience.
The race HQ and start will be in Philips Park, Whitefield, Manchester M45 7QJ
Again, the profits from the race all go to charity. Our chosen charity, BTCV, work at maintaining the British countryside including Philips Park (and they are letting us use their office and toilet for a very reasonable price).
See our website (http://www.hitthenorth.net) for more details of the race, forum, preview rides and the entry form and on-line entry
To let you know, the 2008 event raised over £7000 for local charities, and although the mini event will not raise as much it will throw up the question:
Which is better, mountain bikes or cyclocross bikes? Only one way to find out.........
