    Distance / altitude monitors

Looking for some advice / reviews please....

I am wanting to purchase a speed / distance / altitude monitor / recorder thingy.

I have been looking around and was thinking of the Garmin 405 (but unsure if this does altitude), I have just seen the Timex bodylink trail runner which has altitude and longitude and latitude - sounds very cool - I would like these options. In regards HRM options - I haven't had great success with these in the past (an entry level timex one) with erroneous readings (eg: 240 - I know I don't /couldn't work that hard!) so am not desperately bothered but would be nice.

choices... choices... choices...???? .... Advice please

    Thanks

The Garmin 405 or 305 will do the job well but not show you your current altitude, although you can of course look at this data on the computer when you plug it in. I once had an altitude meter on a watch but it was pretty useless. Camped out one night at 15' and woke up at 450' Think you have to pay quite a bit to get one with any degree of acuracy.

I've yet to see any benefit of the 405 over the 305, and if you're not bothered about a HRM, then the 205 is cheaper still - £105 in Amazon at the moment.

I have been corrected re Garmin 305 elevation readings. It does apparantly display the elevation - must be in settings/display options - I will have to have a play with it to get that reading up..................

Not really a problem. You just need to lock the bezel.

Santa brought me the 405. I didn't have a 305 or a 205 or a 301 or whatever, but I told him I wanted something that looked more like a watch than something out of Star Trek. The autonomy of the battery being lower on the 405 is not a problem, as I don't ever plan on being out running for over 8 hours if I can help it.
If I had had the 305 or 205, I would not have got the 405 though.

Thumbs up Re: Distance / altitude monito

    Thanks everyone .....

procrastinating no longer, have gone and done it now went for the 305

I think I would have found the 405 tricky knowing my gloves and cold fingers.

Thanks Dom (went to amazon), don't always think of them for sports stuff

    Cheers
