    Manx Mountain Marathon

Would anyone be able to give me some guidance on a recce of the route sometime in August? Maybe a day out on the hills?

I'm probably coming across the week commencing 18/08/08, but don't know exactly when.

I'm a plodder and would be looking at a BG kind of pace, but if I'm going to do the MMM next year, need to recce it first.

Anyone up for it? Or got route tips?

    Cheers.

    Hello Lantern Rouge,

Pity about the dates - I'm in the IOM for the first 2 weeks in August and was going to run some of the course (I was there last year and ran the first half).

The Manx fell site has more info http://www.manxfellrunners.org/.

Also, is there is a pair of really detailed OS maps you can buy the have an incredible amount of info. I bought them last year and definitely worth the investment.

    Cheers jodg.

I may be over earlier in August, but I doubt it.

Is all of the course open to the likes of me going for a recce or will I be pi$$ing someone off by trespassing?

I'll go and have a look anyhow.

Thanks for tip with the map... I have the usual IoM OS map that should suffice unless there is a special edition one.

    Thanks

    Allo LR again,

The OS map i was referring to is the IOM Survey "Outdoor Leisure" map. You can find it on this site: http://leisure.ordnancesurvey.co.uk/...uctDetails.jsp

Not sure about the 2nd half of the course but I seemed not to stray onto private land too much on the 1st part...

Why not get in touch with some of the IOM forumites? I know of two - Shrimpy and AllanT.

LR, I did the Manx this year and somewhere I've got some fairly detailed course notes. If I can find them (big IF!!), I'll let you know. From memory, I don't think the course goes on private land at all. It's a great route and you'll have a fantastic day out, especially the nice, pleasing climb at Fleswick(sp?) Bay. Everyone enjoys that climb

Descent from Carraghan to Injebreck crosses private land (detour via Baldwin reservoir), as does descent from Greeba to Greeba Bridge (detour thro King's Forest)

Thanks for the advice Pinchy. I don't want to pi$$ anyone off by trespassing.

I'm reet slow, so was pleased to see that slower runners can start early on the day.

As for when I'll be across, I really don't know for sure, but intend to go for the full hit, weather permitting.

If anyone is flexible and up for a day in the hills, I'd appreciate the company.
