    Stride length and speed

Despite being tall with long legs I have a short stride length. I am not a fast runner and wonder whether I would be a bit faster if I could lengthen my stride. Is is possible to train yourself to take a longer stride or at 40 is it too late?? Any thoughts?

If you Google 'running technique' you should be able to find something. It's definitely not too late!!!

I found a couple of Plyometric sessions a week helped my stride length.

I've given a great deal of thought to your problem and come up with a solution for you tufty ------> take bigger strides when you run

Goes hand in hand with my solution for getting faster race times -- run faster -- and my solution to that age old problem of trying to descend faster -- er run faster when you're descending. Next on the agenda is world peace

Maybe doing some speed work sessions may help as well, you tend to stride longer when you are flat out.

    Re: Stride length and speed

Extending stride length seems to have more to do with pushing your feet further behind you. If you simply try and take longer strides you'll stretch out too far infront of yourself and overstride and be braking slightly every step.

When I run faster and more fluidly I'm landing on my toes, immediately pushing with my forefoot all the way through and pushing off to bounce onto my other foot. Longer strides then comes naturally with this.
