Hendersons end is a good route. I ran it last year and did okay. It was the day after Paddy's pole though so my legs hadn't quite recovered but it was good. Felt sorry for all the Marshalls stuck with the midgies !
I use it as a training route, only really two major downhills on it so your knees shouldn't be too bad, good slog up the back of Winter Hill, pure enjoyment !
Don't forget the detour up Rivvy Pike. I virtually crawled up that!

Hendersons End is lots of trail rather than fell. I ran it two years ago, which was the first year they had offered it as a race rather than just an internal club run. Think I won coz not many knew about it or turned up. Didn't manage it last year as it was the day after something else.
i wouldn't mind meeting up soon for a recce. can do saturday or Sundays
it's better doing the recee in the dark much more fun..
