Does it mean that a 100 yr old, having never run before, would be capable of a Forrest Gump-style epic??

In the politest possible way, I think you take yourself a bit seriously on here Chris. The way I read this thread, you have shot this amazing guy down and dismissed his record as something someone in your local community could beat. Then when people have replied with their opinions you have criticised lack of opinion and cited carping.

My opinion on the original thread, for the record, is that a world best in a global, mass participated, established event has to be celebrated as an excellent achievement.

I can see both sides of the argument for copying training, but essentially as we are all physiologically different, optimal performance will come from individual training programmes. I think there is always a fair to learn from top end training, however its just a balance between the two.

Well, I am grateful for someone coming on with a bit of considered opinion there Roy, and indeed one or two others of you.

If you think I am just a miserable git, in my defence all I ever meant to do was to commend a 60 year old's record run and consider the horizons people of all ages could aim for.

If I got a fair bit of flak back I asked for some of it but only it up to a point.

I got into trouble before. I'm gonna just perch myself on the fence for this one.
