Seems reasonable to me that if you want to do a race that someone else has been kind enough to organise, you respect their rules. If you don't like 'em, do summat else.
My only appeal to organisers would be NOT to produce massive flag-like numbers. I'm quite small and have restricted chest space for advertising matter.
Fell races are usually OK in this respect; road races can be difficult if the number is larger than your vest.

Absolutely. But as you've bothered to contribute to this debate, you're as guilty as the rest of us for prolonging it. That's ForumWang!

I've been dq'd on the track for reducing the size of my number. I was 15 at the time and didn't know any better. I realise now many years later I could have been reinstated as technically the race organisors were wrong as my number before cutting was twice as big as everyone elses. There is a rule that states all athletes should be provided with numbers of the same size and material or words to that effect

There is an episode in Brendan Foster's autobiography where he won a cross country race, but lost on some technicality.

He ran faster than everyone else. Drop the subject. It is not intersting. Why on earth do you want to fold your flipping number anyway; aerodynamics or something!!!?.

Come to think of it why would you want to wear a number?

Careful Chris, You'll be getting a stream of Patrick McGoohan quotes next....

Did you hear the one about the race organisers who tried to save money by using the left over numbers from other races. Unfortunately they had two runners with the same number!

Anyone see those Tough Guy pictures, they just had the numbers markered onto their foreheads. Anyone up for that?
