I renewed my membership this year for less than £5!
Support the YHA - You'll miss them when they have all been sold off to retired Bankers or turned into Boutique Hotels.
Don't stay at Edale YHA though - it's shocking.

I thought the breakfast i had at Edale YHa once was the worst I'd ever had, anywhere.
Stayed at Ambleside YHA a couple of times, I have mixed feelings. Great views, rooms are OK for a couple of nights, breakfast OK if you queue and get there before the mob descends. Not cheap and quite noisy, had to drink large amounts of alcohol to ensure a nights sleep! Last B&B we had in Ambleside was £84 each couple per night but it was very good.
anyone stayed at the Borrowdale one (Longthwaite)?
Seems camping barns etc are what youth hostels used to be. I stayed at one up Littondale which was positively deluxe and much cheaper than YH.
I agree it's a shame but...

thats where i stayed......had some good nights there previously but was surprised with the price, and it was rather busy with a party of Scouts and, as i mentioned plenty of snorer's (in my dorm)
Can't knock the location tho' and the staff and facilities are spot on.
