    Routes of peak district races

    Hello all,
Is there anywhere on the web that has the routes of some of the peak distict fell races? I havent done a fell race yet and would like to do a recce first and compare with some results to see if I would come last. Would something like the burbage skyline be OK for a first race?

Burbage is an excellent race and attracts plenty of 'runners' at both ends of the spectrum. It can seem longer than it advertised distance but there is some good running and nothing too extreme, in fact the steepest hill is probably the one you run down. I can send you a pdf of race route if you pm me your email address.

Incidently where are you based? There's a group of us 'Fat Boys' run from the Scotsmans Pack, Hathersage every Monday night at 7:30, often doing something around Burbage or Stanage. You would be very welcome to join us.

newbie, someone has to come last, you'll improve as you get used to them. I'm usually near the back, doesn't put me off, over the last couple of years it has come sweeter as I've beaten a few of them (not very often mind you...). Not come last overall in a race, managed it for my first polaris mtb event though!!

Steve T's excellent site could be just what you want... http://www.cs.man.ac.uk/~temples/hc/#peaker
Burbage Skyline would be a good starter - but it's a bit of a wait until May. Try Lad's Leap in March.

Bigfella is sending me the map so I will have a go and see how I get on!
March is a bit too soon - i am hoping by May I can get out more with the clocks going back.
Thanks for the messages of support - I spectated a couple of fell races last year and the entrants seemed to be extremely tough looking blokes or the 'young and the fast'. Glad to know you're all so welcoming.

If you're based in Derby you should try Black Rocks and Shining Cliff, both quite 'tame' races. Join the FRA, get a calendar and go to a local one near you. All of the sorter races around your parts will be more than suitable for beginners.

I like the Burbage race. See you there.

If you are near Derby, you could try one of David Dentons races
