    Question Varicose veins.....

    Howdy all

Any of you out there suffer from the dreaded varicose veins?
A lifetime of working stood-up, has left me with a fairly impressive spaghetti junction of the bleeders.
Not causing me any jip, but I'm always a tad wary of the scary possibility of cutting them open whilst out on't fells & succumbing to a most gruesome end!
Anybody had them removed, or otherwise?
What is the usual recovery time afore resuming training?

Any advice, experiences or otherwise would be muchly appreciated, taa.

    Re: Varicose veins.....

I have been wondering about this too. I have had varicose veins in one of my calfs for a few years now, but they have been no trouble. More recently they have appeared at the side of my knee and to a lesser extent a little higher up my leg. Three weeks ago I did a long run and after about 15 miles I had pain and had difficulty in lifting/bending the knee. Its not too bad now - but should I be worried, what should I do?

    Re: Varicose veins.....

I have had mine since my early 20s (late 40s now) and they steadily get worse each year. The advice that I have been given is to get rid of them if I want for cosmetic reasons or if they are causing pain. Since they don't worry me I haven't had anything done about them. Apparently it is a lot easier to do now using lasers rather than stripping them out as was done previously.
