    Sports supplements

I saw an advert in Fellrunner for Allsports sports supplements as recommended by Rob Jebb. They products look interesting , has anyone tried these? Could you recommend any?

    Re: Sports supplements

never seen allsports before so couldn't say one way or another.

I use Nuun as a drink. No carbs in it but a great tasting electrolyte drink that stops me getting dehydrated and getting cramp.

For carbs it is either nutrigrain elevenses (any flavour - all nice), sis gels, jelly babies. Usually start on the solid food then go to gels and babies as they convert to energy faster than the nutrigrains.

Also used hi-5 drink on occasions. They do a carb/electolyte hot conditions drink which is great tasting, especially the berry one. Don't personally like the carb/protein 421 mix drink as I don't feel like it quenches thirst.

Reckon your best bet is just to experiment with different ones. See which taste nice and you actually want to eat/drink after 6 hours running. I think the difference in performance is negligible and the only difference is will you want to use it when the stomach rebels.

Stay away from the maxim gels. They are bloody awful. All sugar and then crash.

I tried the SIS rego stuff - the choccy one tasted ok, but I found that I couldn't sleep afterwards and gave it up.
Don't know if it was the rego or the after-effects of evening races that caused the sleep probs.
    Any thoughts?
