    Camping near Hawkshead

I'll be doing the Hawkshead Trail race on Apr.18th, and need good family campsite for a few days leading up

suspect the Hawkshead Hall site will be choc-a

looking at Grizedale, and also found one called Scarr Head near Torver (Coniston way on would be fine)

    any thoughts on those?
    or others?

Not stayed there for many a year but the National Trust's Low Wray campsite used to be good.

    Thanks for the suggestion Mt
I did see that one, but a lot of reviews seemed to mention that a) it gets very crowded, and b) that it was a bit over-officious wrt Rules
    might still consider it though...

I thought the Hawkshead campsite was dreadful a couple of years back at this race, wasn't that busy though.

Scarr Head is a small a nice campsite, makesure you book. Two good pubs 5 mins walk away in Torver serving good food. Only problem with the campsite is if there has been lots of rain it doesn't drain very well! Basic facilities but hot clean showers.

    what was dreadful about it?
and which Hawkshead site do you mean dom?
Hawkshead Hall is the one to the North of the village that is near the start/finish and is specifically mentioned on the Lakeland Trails site
but there's also another site call The Croft quite near the centre of the village...
