What is the course like in Germany? Up hill only?
Also how will the third athelte be picked? The other English Junior Championships races? or is there any other way?

    Re: World Youth Challenge

I take it this is instead of Shuttlingsloe - which was the trial race last year?

Can somebody advise why the rule "must be 16 on day of travel"?

It means that kids with birth dates prior to this will get 2 chances to compete, where kids with their birth date after will only get the one chance.

    Re: World Youth Challenge

I think its a totally unfair rule which is unfair on those with birthdays after June. Last year one U16 had a cracking race at Shutlingsloe and ran his guts out to get a place only to be told he was too young. This year if he doesnt get in then he will have missed out altogether, where other juniors he is racing have been able to go twice.

I cannot see it being a race rule. Perhaps travel insurance for the squad?

    Re: World Youth Challenge

    Participation
    7. Participation is limited to youths aged 16 or 17 years on 31st December in the year of competition (IAAF Rule 141)
    8. The two races (one for boys, one for girls) are open to all youths of the correct age.

From WMRA Website - so can anyone please confirm why the England selection rules are "16 on day of travel" please?

    Re: World Youth Challenge

Your daughter is in the same boat as Ash, Tom and Jonny last year. There is every possibility she will qualify but is too young to go. I remember last year feeling very sorry for my son after all his hard work and then escpecially as a lad that he races against got to go with the Scotland team who was 15. Totally unfair for these youngsters who instead of hanging around the streets of a night are doing something with their lives.

Suggest you email Bashir, International Junior Team Manager to get the answers to your '16 on the day' and selection criteria questions.
