    Bofra - Coniston Gullies

this race has really captured my imagination and I'd really like to give it a go as it looks pretty terrifying from the video I've seen and tougher and more hazardous than any descents I tried yet

from the enquiries i've made i've heard the Bofra used to be the professional fell series ? can anyone ( ie just fit and keen ) just rock up and attempt to negotiate it ( the website seems to indicate this ) ?

    thanks

You'd be more than welcome at any of the BOFRA races. Coniston Gullies is a classic race and everyone should give it a go.

There are dozens of races throughout the country (BOFRA and others) that choose for whatever reason not to put themselves into the FRA calendar. I've yet to find one of these races that everyone isn't most welcome to attend.

If you find you like Coniston Gullies then you must try some of the other BOFRA delights; Alva, Wasdale Head Show or Hawkswick Dash to name but a few.

Look forward to seeing you there.

Local knowledge/navigational skills MAY apply at this race?

Route choice has always been an issue over the years...follow the flagged route out then ascend a steep "gully" (can also be spelled as "gulley"), follow the flags along the top section then descend via another steep, scree-ridden gully (can also be spelled as "gulley")...then follow the flagged section to the finish.

If in doubt about the route then ask a committee member on the day.

Yep, get yerself over there Tri! As Harry says, you'll be most welcome and you'll have a great day/experience

Only hint I'd give you is...don't do the route on your bike It's scary enough when your feet are on the ground (...which won't be very much of the time anyhow )

    See ya there!
...there's a hill nearby missing its fool...

    Re: Bofra - Coniston Gullies

jus re read the Bofra site on this race..

describes the descent as 'a sheer drop'

and there was me wondering wether to use my mudclaws or roclites...but seems footware may be the least of my concerns especially if frozen to spot or tumbling on my ****....maybe a parachute and nerves of steel are required
