    Mental Strength

I've come to the conclusion that, in order to improve, I need to develop more mental strength in races - I tend to opt for comfort over speed in a race and, when things start hurting, slow right off instead of pushing through it. What do others do to push through the pain barrier? Any tips or tricks you could pass my way?

might not be the answer you're after but as a beginner myself I just try and enjoy it and get round in good shape. One day you might feel good and 'fly round' and others it'll be a right pain in the arse. But you're up in the fells doing something that most people don't do, so I reckon that's worth enjoying for itself ...

Spot on ZHR, just talking on saturday about 1 in 10 races you feel great, and the other 9, like a bag of washing, just get out there and enjoy it and the mental strength will develop by itself

How much do you really want to improve? Is it really mental strength or is it desire The desire to improve should be the motivating factor. If all you want to do is stay in your comfort zone then.... stay in your comfort zone?

yes but... comfort zone equals = not really finding out what you could have done if you'd pushed yourself out of your comfort zone?
