    Marlborough Downs Challenge 20

Anybody done or doing this event?

Definitely going to enter the 20 but am also thinking about the 30.

It doesn't look that well signed on the route. The website gives you directions to follow but I'd much prefer to run with map and compass. I've tried to map it out form the directions but they are very tricky to translate without being there on the ground.

I had that problem when i did a LDWA run. I found the best way was to recce it...the part i didnt recce i got seriously lost and added a couple of miles and wasting about 15/20 minutes trying to find the path.

I don't have the opportunity to recce it unfortunately.

I'll most probably map it as best I can from the instructions, its not remote wilderness and there are quite a few checkpoints with grid refs so there will be definite points to hit. If I'm a bit out from the ambigous description then I'll either end up running a bit more or less!

Hopefully I'll be able to follow some fellow runners, but that doesn't always gurantee they know where they are going either!

I did try to see if anyone had previously run it with a Garmin so I could check the route that way but got no joy.

I seem to have entered the full 33 mile event - 1st Ultra for me!

I've no opportunity for a recce either so I was just going to rely on the notes provided & the kindness of others.

From reading various review around the web I'm hoping for a good day out, no plans on a finish time just want want to get round!

It's my first ultra as well - see you there!!

I haven't set a time either, I think that's a sure fire way for me to really cock it up. I may even just run on the heart rate monitor to reign me in a bit at the start.
