    (more) knee pain

    Hello

I seem to be getting a sharpish pain centrally on top of my knee cap, I don't mean above i.e between kneecap and quads but just under the skin but feels 'above' the boney cap. It feels like it runs straight up and down the cap.

Its fine in the morning and fine during the day - Im always bounding up and down stairs at work with no probs but by about 5/6pm when I sit relaxing at home it starts to twinge sharply. Also it does twinge sharply running down hills (almost not at all on the up) and when bringing that leg forwards through a normal running stride....

...any ideas as to cause or cure!

    Helen

Sounds like what I got: ITB problems. As Al says: get thee to a physio for proper diagnosis and treatment. Good luck.

    Re: (more) knee pain

... if Im honest... since end of March. Ive been kind of ignoring it as it comes and goes and doesn't seem to hurt enough to stop me...(!) In the last couple of weeks though Ive really started to pay attention to it as I want to get out more and more in the coming summer!!

Ive been to physios before with tendon problems and they never seemed to help, they just use it as an excuse to chat whilst they do some kind of therapy that for just 10 minutes a week is never going to work...

I guess I know ultimately the answer I don't want to hear is REST!

I'd be inclined to find a different physio; one who gives you some kind of programme of stretching an / or strengthening etc to help overcome the problem

Hi Helen, I'm sure a 'decent' physio could diagnose, or at least have a hypothesis, which may make you feel like your getting somewhere. I tried 4 physios until I found one that was top drawer, knew what she was talking about & was hands on rather than sticking a machine on me....

My knees are struggling with the big mileage right now so I'm taking glucosamine (as recommended by pharmcist) & cod liver oil (as recommended by Ron Hill), not sure if thats purely psychological but knees seem to recover better/quicker & at least Im showing them that I do care!
