    anyone swum Wast Water ?

jus wondering if anyone had any experience of this to offer ?

I'm not brave/hardy /stupid enough to swim across it on my own because of it's depth and reputed coldness in midde but think a swim along the shore line would be a nice experience beneath the towering screes and rolling skies

sure I saw a gaggle of divers there once so mus' be ok

    Swum it plenty of times......
First time as a 10yr old, it scared the trunks of me!!!!
Very dark, black & freezing cold...

Happier swims, have been mid/post Bob Graham etc...
    Very Special piece of Water..
I'll be in bathing mode again this (mid) July!
    See you there?

Surely its depth is irrelavant beyond 2 meters. I once swam off the back of a yacht in the med and there were comments from the kids that it was too deep to swim in because it was 3000m deep 3-30-300-3000 whats the difference

but yes i would imagine it is very cold brrrrrrr!

and impressive under the screes. I've paddles it a few times.

I haven't swam Wast Water but I've swam Coniston Water and Windemere loads of times (albeit usually in the June to September corner of the year). I have a run of about 7 miles around the bottom of Coniston that culminates in a 700 meter swim diagonally across to Peel Island and then across the lake for maybe another 700 meters or so back to my starting point. I don't wear a wet suit or anything clever like that but just my running togs.

See the 3rd run in this link Coniston run

Its a bit cold but great fun..... especially on a warm day. I'm not sure depth noticeably changes the temperature - Coniston is what 150 meters plus deep in the middle and it was just as cold out there as it was in the shallows

Nope not swum, (swam?) in that one but spent 4 hours swimming in Ullswater last May as part of the Hellvelyn Triathlon training camp and it was FREEZING. Horrible. Cold, dark, bumpy and scary!

Hmmm, divers in Wast Water. It's quite a popular spot for that due to the depth. Images.
