Bolts on Broad Stand

I find it amusing that some people would be so upset by the placement of a bolt and or bolt hole on a rock. They should seek counselling

The only problem as an outsider that I'd have with this is the fact that the vast majority of challengers who complete the BGR are virtually reliant on their pacers / helpers in terms of route knowledge and navigation thus negating a large part of the "challenge".....

I'd disagree, from experience this is not what i have found to be the case.
In fact the exact opposite would be true.

There's been no mention of the bolts on Pillar rock on here, that appeared sometime after those on Broadstand.

It doesn't have the reputation, Big Dog, that Broad Stand does. Are there countless you tube videos of it? Has Gruff Rhys been up it with the help of Wasdale mountain rescue for the tv camera's? Reputation Big Dog, is what it's all about....street cred.....

Pillar rock is just another spot where bolts have no place. It has nothing to do with reputation, or whether Julia Cadbury has been on it, just tradition and ethics. Bolting these pieces of rock does nothing to reduce their reputation to non climbers and climbers alike as you still need the skills to make use of the metal.
