I am running Ben Nevis for the first time this year and need to choose between my Walsh PB Elite or Inov8 Flyroc trail shoes. Can't afford to buy a further different pair ... please advise!

Whichever have got the best sole by September!
You're obviously comfortable in both. Enjoy it. You will. Really you will!

I'd go walshes, there is plenty of steep grass and mud to justify fell over trail, the road section is at the end and very short. I have and will where walshes for that race.
i was all set for roclite 285s last year, but there was a bit of rain in the days before, so went for mudclaws. In retrospect, the roclites would have been ok apart from on the grassy bank which was a bit greasy, and the reinforced toe would have been helpful on the loose rocky sections. If totally dry, the roclites would have been ideal (in my opinion). The rock was fairly loose in places so more aggressive studs are probably less vital here.
However, walshes or mudclaws are ideal also but will get a lot of wear and tear. Then again, so what?
From what I've heard, it's a hell of a rough race and fell shoes are the answer, therefore I would go for Walshes. You may regret that when you hit the mile road stretch towards the end mind. If it's dry you may be best with Flyrocs, but if it's wet, Walshes are your only choice I'm afraid.
Up the mighty Wharfedale 'arriers!
Crosslites the only option
Trying to plod up hills every day slightly faster than the day before
Inov8 330's have done me well for last 3 years (different pairs I hasten to add!) Used Walsh PB racer before that, they were fine too.
Forget the road at the end -you'll be well tired by then anyway and everything will hurt so it won't matter what you've got on your feet
But you do need the best sole you can have for the descent...wet or dry conditions!
