Nice one, was it open for business then or had they already tried to close it off?

rather you than me squire - although if I was carabinered up I might not mind so much ... But I'm pretty sure I'd freeze at some point and not be able to go forward or back.

According to Paddy Dillon (the walking writer), there's trails in the Madeira mountains even more exposed that are still in use .... gulp.

What scares me most is the delicate state of the concrete that is holding you, not so much the exposure. I'd be happy on there if I knew the walkway wasn't going to collapse underneath me any moment...

Did it as a 13 year old kid, so should be feasible, for us adults now, right? Or maybe I just did not think as much then

yep - the local authority has tried to stop access to the camino del rey over the years, but obviously people find their way on to it

guidebooks etc advise against it too, unsurprisingly

I admit, I loved that vid and did some googling and found a report of two guys who'd walked it and it sounds spectacular, secenry wise... but I would just not trust that path...

With the Vie Ferrate in Italy it is different, all well maintained so no trouble in trusting ladders, cables and cut out ledges...
