Cracking race last night - brilliant turn out considering there was a certain game being played (wish I'd missed the second half now...)

Thanks to organisers, marshals & all involved.

You've got to get your entry in early to get into Grindleford these days Daz.

I was on the waiting list and just been offered a place. I hope the river is not too high!

This weeks RATRun was at Grindleford for its Fell Race. As the pub in the village is closed we put a crate of beer in the River Derwent to chill whilst we became part of Three Hundred and Thirty Three starters for this years edition.

Another hot evening made it hard work for the runners as we made our way up through Hay Wood and into the Longshaw estate. Steeply down through the boulder and tree root ridden Padley Gorge, over the railway, across a few fields and then a refreshing crossing of the Derwent to the finish in the sports field.

The race was won by Tom Saville of Dark Peak in a new record and the First Lady was Phillipa Williams, also of Dark Peak, 3rd overall, and with a new record.

As predicted I struggled, this being my 3rd race in 6 days but came home 59th and 3rd M60. Back in the sports field we enjoyed a picnic of cheese and red onion, ham and mustard sandwiches, hard boiled eggs, spring onions, gherkins and crisps which were washed down with our river chilled beers.

A great evening out until the breeze dropped and midges became unbearable.
