    Championship Points

Without wanting to sound too mercenary, but after the carnage of Edale could someone explain in words of one sylable how English Championship Points are awarded - especially in Vet categories.

It may affect my plans for the rest of the season

    Cheers

    MH

Why don't you wait until Mark does them - sure he won't take long!

    Re: Championship Points

There was a discussion at the AGM the other year about the severity of the Long A races used for championship races. It was after a year when the British Longs were Spelga and Perris – both considered to be super-longs by the cognacenti, and both of them felt to be far too taxing for some of us poor females.

Following this there was a stated intention from the Championship squad to try to avoid this in future and, although it was in respect of the British, it should apply equally to the English.

With this in mind, I should imagine that there will be some prayers for an extremely benign Duddon! See you there, girls!

    Re: Championship Points

can you therefore explain why over some longer races 'us poor females' do relatively better than the men

I agree, Saz. Always thought that this was nonsense.

Saz/Y.T. at the risk of a beating/berating....isn't it something to do with the higher percentage of body fat that very fit women have compared with very fit men keeping them 'better fuelled' over longer distances?

    Re: Championship Points

elite women = 89% body fat, elite men 4-5%, which is still enough calories if you were to convert all the fat all to keep going long after any fell race has finished

women do tend to be more efficient at using fat for at below threshold speed, hence fewer women tend to bonk in marathons (my subjective view)

maybe its becuase at longer distances the normal physiological advantage men have is reduced significantly and it becomes more of a mental challenge.....
