    To Fell and Back

An article in GQ magazine about fell running:

    To Fell and Back

It was also refreshing to learn that fell runners see nothing wrong with ploughing through bottles of red wine and beer the night before a big excursion

A good piece, and well done to the Tod folk who showed him that our green and plesent land has some more interesting features.

PS The wippets need feeding and don't go telling too many southerners what we get up to.

An excellent article I must say! We were the hosts to "Mr GQ" Mark Russell on what proved to be a very enjoyable weekend. Not only was he good company but, amazingly to say he's never set foot "off-road" before, Mark proved to be pretty fit and coped with the fells remarkably well. We took him up and over Pavey Ark, High Raise, Rossett Pike, Bow Fell, Crinkle Crags, and Pike O Blisco as a little taster for what's in store at Jura. Our ascent of Bowfell proved most interesting (the BG route) when we got slightly misplaced and ended up with hand on rock and turf climbing straight up. When we told him most of Jura is just like this he seemed pretty unphased! And, he's still keen to do the Jura Race after the weekend's baptism of fire. (I've arranged a guide for him so he can write an article on the race and the distillery).

Well done to Mark, excellent company.

Although, I did wonder whether he would get the wrong impression of fell runners, and in particular the Toddies - but I think he got them right as the drinking club with a running problem.

Everyone, just remember not to call him 'The fat lad from FHM' when you see him at Jura. It would be wrong and he probably wouldn't like it.
