Is there anyone from the Goyt Valley Striders out there on the forum? I've just spotted myself in the Whaley Waltz photo in the autumn mag and would appreciate getting my hands on a copy if poss.

    Cheers

Interesting small section about wind turbines written presumably by Chris k in which he wished the FRA to take an opinion against them. Even if the total carbon footprint of installing them taking into account manufacture, fitting and maintenance makes them not really viable, i don't think the research and development benefits from using them should be ignored. Regardless of whether global warming is down to a natural climate shift or otherwise i think we should be more open to the idea that forms of alternative power generation should be tested and developed thoroughly, and that can only really be achieved in the field.

I started a thread a bit ago about a proposed windfarm near Blencathra - I personally wouldn't mind a small scale turbine in my garden or serving my village but I object very strongly to them being placed in or near the fells. So by all means put them in a field (!) but not one in amongst the fells.

I think there is a lot to be said for small scale, local micro-generation projects which occupy existing "brown sites". For example, the hydro project at the Torrs in New Mills.

So save the world from global warming- but not if it spoils my view?
