Physio reckons i've got retrocalcaneal bursitis on left heel, feels like its been hit with a hammer!! Had it since january, recommends corticosteroid injection to clear it up. Anyone got experience/advice?

No, but it sounds impressive.
Make sure he hits the right spot - think there is some evidence of a potential link between corticosteroid injection in the heel causing subsequent achillies problems.
If Doc hasn't mentioned already make sure you specifically ask about it first.
