Thread: Best Junior Races

    Re: Best Junior Races

    Done quite a few junior races not so many recently mind, however some of my favs where;
    Three shires - FAST run out then a great climb
    High Rigg - same as above, found it very tough every time, also organisation was top notch
    Sedbergh old FRA - great courses all round

    Then some of the BOFRA's
    Kettlewell - love this race it think it has a bit of everything squeezed into a short race
    Wasdale - Pritty unique and UNBELIEVABLY steep!
    Troutbeck - A Kendal winter league race, used to love the variation and a great decent!

    Other randoms now!
    Ambleside sports and grasmere - Both good courses but id say its the sense of occasion thats makes the good also you normally get a good quality field.

    And bear in mind for the over 16 juniors there is some great senior shorts you can do!

    Haha thats quite a list brings back the good memories!

    For all of you suggesting that Sedbergh has good courses. This year there are two races there. The English Schools, which last year had 370 runners, on 27th September. And the British Junior Champs and Home Internationals.

    That is why we haven't used the venue for a Junior Champs race!

    Can we enter the English Schools on the day.
    And does the British and Irish champs have an open race in case i dont qualify for the Welsh team.

    I would agree that courses shouldnt be over used but with limited places and organisers who are probably in single figures that are enthuisiastic about putting on junior races it is an inevitability that such races will be churned through the system over and over again.

    As a junior i read so much about the classic races such as Borrowdale and Ben Nevis yet none of these have junior races so we cant share that same feeling that many seniors do so its no wonder the drop out rate is so large
