Will the winner of this race actually be selected or will it just become another fiasco i wonder.
UK Athletics are committed to sending the
strongest possible mountain running teams to the Championships. The selectors reserve the right,
where performance standards are not considered sufficient, to not select full teams.
So that means they have probably pre-selected the team. No point turning up folks.

...think this a bit different you know!
why would it be. Its UKA

not really...firstly its UKA for the world champs, england, scotland and welsh athletics for the commonwealths. UKA shot themselves in the foot with a rigid selection policy for the trail champs, an unexpected (but nonetheless welcome) result in a race that didn't include any of the three outstanding candidates and finally poor communication with those affected. The selections by UKA in previous European MRCs (and England athletics in the worlds) have not been anywhere near as controversial...and I say that despite personally being on the wrong end of a contentious selection decision five years ago. Don't make this a continuation of the arguement in other threads that has since been laid to sleep.

...the potentially controversial decision will come for the uphill only race at the commonwealths, with no trial (for england at least) there might be some disappointed runners!
TBF to them, this time the advert is written far far better. Clear criteria and selection dates. No ambiguity.
It'll be interesting how each home nation handles selecting for both races, who they select for both and who they select for one. That's a tricky call. I know Wales have said they will select the same athletes for both but I think it's more clear cut with a smaller pool of runners.
I don't think there are any junior events at Keswick are there?
It's a pity if there isn't but I thought someone else told me that recently?
