    Re: Equipment for a MM

It will depend a bit on what MM you are planning to do. The Kimm oops sorry OMM being at the end of October can be pretty chilly (though so can the LAMM in June - they had snow in 2004 I think!) so you tend to need a better sleeping bag or shiver more! However the key thing is to have a go so use what you can afford, beg, borrow or steal. A back packing tent of around 2kg is easier to borrow and can be spilt between the two of you, lightweight gas stoves are pretty cheap, and you can sleep on bubblewrap. A decent MM sack is around 40 quid and worth the investment - always useful for other things such as biking and long hill days especially if its not too big (25L good general purpose size). As for sleeping bag - get as good a lightweight bag as you can afford. I believe there are some some reasonable lightweight synthetics around, otherwise if its down you do need to spend the money. Cheap down is not worth it. Otherwise as a fell runner you will have the clothes and waterproofs that will do the job.

I only did the one MM, and bought some kit - my mate had the tent and experience. My initial impression was that it was easy to become obsessed by kit weight etc. when as a novice there are far more important things than saving maybe 2 kg's in the sacs.

    Like I was overweight .

Food, and plenty of it that suits you.
Don't roll with a pig in poo. You get covered in poo and the pig likes it.

Definitely. Use what ever kit you can get hold of and then upgrade bit by bit. You will learn lots on each MM - organisation, 'nous' and 'top tips' are a key part of MMs - here's one: Tesco food bags for collecting water - take a smal one for on the hoof and a large one (or two) for use at the overnight camp.
Tao begets one. One begets two. Two begets all things.

    Re: Equipment for a MM

i have done a few MM and i have a TNF tadpole...loads of space, not too heavy, i reckon that with a bit of tailoring (forget stuff sacs, minimal pegs and guys etc.) you can get it down to about 1.6KGS, which is pretty good. Colemans and Laserlites are the most popular - re the bags, dont forget good old snugpack, they do light, as well as the others - PHD, OMM, Alpkit, ME, TNF etc...you can get a decent bag for around 500gms and less than £100 if you look round - as someone said previously, unless you are in the elite, the few extra gms doesnt make too much of a difference
