I don't think they're good on wet rock at all, a couple of weeks ago in Scotland had my Highlanders on one day and 330s the other on mostly rocky terrian and the grip of the Highlanders was much better.

On steep grass its a different matter

have you got the new mudclaws though. The grip is better although i will agree it could be better. As for durability 11 months is damn good for a shoe

    Knackered them after three runs

I run mostly on rocky terrain in Lakes, Scotland and Snowdonia, I can destroy Inov8s and Walshes in a month.

Still using the highlanders I did my BG in nearly a year ago

i dont run that much though. I much prefer training on the track or road for speed. So i probably do 20 miles a week in my fell shoes tops

Thats my problem I'd say. I only run on the fell, not sure what my mileage is but its between 10,000 and 20,000 feet of ascent a week, it soon knackers shoes and me

    Re: New mudclaws

The inov-8 shoes with sticky rubber soles are best for wet rock.Thats why we use that compound.

Baggins it could just be that Inov-8 dont suit you.

    Out comes the soap box

Inov-8 was started 6 years ago because we felt that there was a real need for a specialist company devoted to fellrunning/off road running, its what we do, its the sport we are involved in and love.
We are not some multi-national corporate ski or road running giant who see fell running as a nice little niche market that can give them a specialist image.
Most companies dont even know what fellrunning is. Its not the same as trail running.

We make our shoes to be very flexible so that your foot uses the muscles, tendons, ligaments etc. We know from experience that as soon as you get off road/ont fell you encounter all sorts of terrain.
One minute your on rock, next in a bog, on scree, dry grass, contouring round steep fell descending etc. The ground constantly changes its not like running on a road or made up path.

The continental brands are coming to it from a different angle, most are looking at Trail running ( its a bigger market especially in USA) and are adapting road shoes or similar principles and making shoes that are stiffer, & with fancy gels/gizmos.
They may well argue and try and convince consumers in their marketing that this is what is needed for running on made up paths or trails. (I could counter that)
Brands that are advocating "motion control" & stiffners are at the complete opposite to what we believe at inov-8.
Having a stiff shoe may work for some people but its at the other end of the spectrum to us.
We say " Let the foot control the shoe, not the shoe control the foot"

Having shoes that stand up to the rigours of running in mountainous terrain is paramount, that goes without saying.
We make our shoes with different fits, different rubber compounds and cushioning so the customer has the widest choice.
Were not happy just having one sole, one fit because in reality peoples feet and their particular running requirements are different. Its all about offering choice.

We do listen to what our customers say and are constantly trying to improve the quality and performance of our products.
Our large team of international testers, elite athletes and individuals are constantly giving us feedback. We dont just sit back on our laurels we want the best products on the market after all we use them ourselves .
Its easy for us to get things changed quickly because we understand how small tweaks can improve things.
Were not governed by meetings and number crunchers. We can adapt very quickly because we are a small specialist company, we know the sport and hope we are giving people superior products as a result.

If you believe that a product you bought did not perform as intended or wasn't fit for purpose or faulty in anyway then you should return it to where you bought it from so that we can see it.
We can only improve things if we know about them.
You can always PM if you have any issues.

    Climbs down from soap box
