I didn't know that you were going back in time TT - I thought the discussion had moved on to the merits of Burnsall or Darwen!
Still not sure. I just trying to give feedback on the series as a whole. Probably Darwen as i can still complete the champs if i can get a lift to the Viking Chase

This link http://www.annes-mountain.co.uk/Lordstone.htm has pictures of the hillside used for Viking Chase. The second one in particular gives a good idea, although it is steeper. The older age groups U16 and U18 (maybe U14 - sorry can't remember) drop over the horizon and descend a long way down, probably below the start/finish. There is also a picture that looks back down to the start. A mixture of stone path, sheep trod and grass, plus fantastic views.
If the format is the same as last year, you need to bear in mind that they try to run the races almost concurrently, so turn up before the stated start time. The reason is that it is organised by Cleveland Search & Rescue, so if they get called out, the team go there and then. The shorter elapsed time the less likely this is to happen. In the event that they do get a call, there will be enough helpers there to take over, thus in practice no problem.
Well worth the trip imho, and the venue for the presentation has plenty of activities for the afternoon.
