Apologies if this has been discussed before, can't find owt on it.
Don't want to start and finish in the dark, want my kids to see me set off and finish, is 21.00 a good time to go or 19.00, or even 20.00. Any thoughts Folks?

Hills and Guinness!
Hi merry
It has been discussed and it seems any time is fair game but personally I would look at 7.00-30 ish.
Aim to get off Halls fell(if you are going that way )just as it gets dark.
Back in time for a wash and then beer. no having to rush for last orders. oh yes and the kids won't be in bed.
Cheers Ian, plenty of time to decide yet, working on a 23 hour schedule on Bob's calculator Great Calva and Blencathra will be done at dusk, the whole of leg 2 in the dark and Steel Fell at Dawn.

You will perhaps remember the thread about 2008 successes on here:
http://http://forum.fellrunner.org.u...ead.php?t=6664
If I get a minute I will dig out the source material and let you know how many went at what times between 6.00 and 9.00 pm.
I suspect IDP has it about right.

OK mate, no time like the present.
These numbers/start times are in respect of successes in 2008.
5.00 pm - 1
6.00 pm - 7
6.28 pm - 1
6.30 pm - 9
6.45 pm - 6
7.00 pm - 2
7.15 pm - 1
8.00 pm - 4
9.00 pm - 3
10.00 pm - 1 (this was Headless's winter round)
Half six gets the nod.
I would guess that gets you to Dunmail in the dark, but at least you won't have to look at that climb up Steel Fell.
Plenty of time for several Guinnesses before closing time.

Thanks for that Morgan, one Guinness may be enough though, but knowing me, probably not
7 o'clock is looking appealing at the mo
Hills and Guinness!
Steve depending on the day you may want to set off a tad earlier. one month later could mean 30 minutes earlier start.
Hi Steve,
I went at 7pm on the 26th June, on my 22hr schedule, I was 15mins up at Blencathra and got down in the last bits of light although it was still dusk like for another half an hour after I got down. 18:30 - 19:00 I think is ideal, just make sure you are well up on the Dodds to avoid a night like mine and bobert's
And as you well know we had plenty of light for the jog back into Keswick
