Just a long run a week.

At the other end of the scale to the 30 minute run thread (http://forum.fellrunner.org.uk/showt...ghlight=minute)

...i was wondering what everyone though about getting away with doing just one run a week...and a long one at that.

My current aim im training for is the Langdale Horseshoe in October.
Now, i can get away with no training at all and doing ok in shorter races ...but trying to race langdale off no training will kill me.

My plan is to do a long run each weekend on the run up to langdale...of around the same distance (14 miles plus) either on the fells if i can get there....or across the muddy fields from my door step which wont have the climbing obviously but the mud will be thick and atleast i'll be getting the distance.

Because of a couple of reasons im not always able to make the tuesday club run...so i'll only really be running once a week.

So what does everyone think...will it work?

You'll be fine Al. For a couple years I did a long run on a Sunday and a club pub run on a Wednesday night and I lost weight and got fitter. A bit of cycling in the mix might help too and don't forget the 'cross training' you do at Sainsbury

So you can't make Tuesday club session. What about mon, wed, thur, fri? Run home from work? Morning run before work, evening run after work? Headtorch run?

Always time to go running. You just may have to stop posting for a bit though

A long run will probably keep you ticking over and build endurance but won't make you any faster.

I cant over-do it.....dodgy knees....they pack in if i over-do it.....i work 4 times a week and its physical work and if i run the same day that i have work it will be suicide.
