Thread: Your favourite five races?

    Your favourite five races?

Right I've done four good Lakes races in my first year of fellrunning and I've loved it - I've maybe been lucky and took to it well, but it's taken some effort too.

I'd like to branch out and enter some races in other parts of the country, expecially the Peaks, Yorks and Wales. (Am aiming to get to the FTOP in Nov for a start-off.)

So I'd really like to know among all the Kinders and Edales and Pendles and Black Mountains and all the rest of it, which ones people rate.

That's not to rule Lakes races out of your top 5, of course ...

If the North East tickles your fancy, Chevy Chase (long) Simonside Cairns (medium and wintery) Windy Gyle (medium and glorious under foot) and Cheviot Summit (short) all have put a smile on my face in the past year.

    Med. Coiners

Or if you want something a bit different. Try the "Midsummer Madness" 3 race series. 3 races, one weekend.

    Re: Your favourite five races?

I've done 42 different fell races in the 3 years since I took it up, and tbh I'm struggling to think of one that I would NOT recommend!

I bow to Iain's (much) greater knowledge of Welsh races, but would like to put in words for Ras Yr Aran, Man v Horse and Snowdon (your mates must've heard of that!)

I've not done many in the Lakes, but find it hard to believe that many will be better than Three Shires

My "specialist" area is the top end of the Peak District though, and would pick out Kinder Downfall, Lantern Pike and Macclesfield Forest.

I'm doing Sandstone Trail (in hilly Cheshire!) this Sunday though, and, having already recce'd it, I am expecting it to leap straight to the top of my personal charts

    [I know that's 8, but I think I did well not to list all 42 ]
