First Breidden Hills race done and dusted. Pleased with 1.17 as it was very muddy and slippy in places. Took the descents quite slowly as I had no prior knowledge of the route and knew there were a few tricky spots. Well attended and well organised with plenty of enthusiastic marshalls. Definitely worth the 2.5 hour round trip. Next up is the Wrekin Wrecker.

well done, PeteS it was slippery out there today.

The Wreker is quite different, still lots of fun!

Cheers Dave. The climb up the first hill was very slippery. I usually do a couple of Shropshire races each winter (Wrecker, Cardington or LMVs) but thought I'd have a crack at the series this year. Not sure I'll do the lot but something to aim for.

Glad you enjoyed it PeteS, and thanks for marshalling again Dave...

I sadly missed out... halfway along the M54 when I received an urgent phone call that my mum had been rushed into hospital with a mini-stroke... cue a very fraught journey back in terrible weather... to be honest was just on auto-pilot, and felt more sorry for my clubmate who must have felt incredibly awkward to be put in such a situation. luckily my brother was in the vicinity of home and was able to act very quickly...

I also must have looked quite a sight walking round the hospital in my Cov Godiva vest and short shorts!

Whoa! Thought something must be up as you didn't make the race and had been off the forum all week.
Hope your mum is making a good recovery.
At least you weren't wandering around the hospital post-race - now that would have been a sight!

Thank you Pete.... yes after some of those descents they’d have probably been trying to find a bed for me!

We were lucky that we hadn’t got past J3 on the M54 so could turn round fairly quickly... another mile or so and we’d have been going all the way to Telford... I could tell from the tone of the phone call that something serious was up, so slowed down as not to go past the junction.

A stressful week... my brother has a new son not a week old, so quite a strain for him, the worry combined with lack of sleep... I count myself fortunate really...

Hope your Mum gets better soon.

Good to hear that you have a new nephew to distract you from your training schedule.
In his lifetime he suffered from unreality, as do so many Englishmen.

This year's race is on October 9th on a modified course which was run last year. Anyone know what has altered?

I didn't do the race last year, but i recall there being talk of a potential new way off the final top, Rodney's Pillar.

    So it might be that.

A fine race. Sadly i'll be missing it as doing Langdale on the saturday.

Can't help I'm afraid but I note it is the 1st race in the 22/23 Shropshire Winter Series. I fancy giving the series a go but can't find a list/dates of races. Anyone know if they are out yet?
Visibility good except in Hill Fog
