    Hes...........................birthday girl!!!!!!!

A fell poet who shall remain nameless
Upon meeting a writer most famous
    Fell down at his feet
    In the wet Pennine peat
    Soggy, muddy and shameless

Japan:The Blast of The Wintry Wind

    As banked clouds
are swept apart by the wind,
    at dawn the sudden cry
    of the first wild geese
    Winging across the mountains.

    In a mountain village
    at autumn’s end—
    that’s where you learn
    what sadness means
in the blast of the wintry wind.

    Saigyo (1118-1190)
Only one who will risk going too far can possibly find out how far one can go. -T.S.Eliot

    That is absolutely fantastic Freckle!

No pressure there then! I'd better get my thinking cap on, (and my poetry pants) for some inspiration.

Happy Brithday Hes. I hope you had a good do last night and enjoy the rest of your special weekend.

    Ode to Hes
    They say in Masham folklore
    There does exist
A maiden with a golden braid
Like some form of “fell mermaid”

    Complete with mudclaws
    And inky hands
    She ascends and descends
    the Wensleydale lands

    A printmaker by trade
    And worshipper of hares
    She moves through the moorlands
    In manner fleet and fair.

But then like a roe deer
    She’s out of trace
    bar a few stud marks
and the echo of a smiling face.

Ps... i have to say that one of the things I find most lovely about hes is that in every fell running photie she is smiling her head off! x

    Re: Today's poet

Oh my goodness....I'm really, really touched! Thank you so much. I'm honestly a bit choked up over here.

Lovely Freckle, that was so special and a damn fine poem; OW...your wittiness made me laugh as usual; hope you had a great run today Steve; thanks Alf...not sure I'm quite in Calliope's league...but hey, its my birthday so I'll enjoy it anyway! HHH...thank you for your thoughtfulness...the postman brought it in time (sending a pm), Masham Man...it was a great party and I'm very pleased that you were there to help me celebrate my entry into a new category and to reassure me in person, by being 'The Legend of Masham', that 40 is just the start & that I have much to look forward to out on those fells (also for giving me the means to carry more snacks)!

MG...I know it wasn't anything to do with my birthday but I really liked the Saiygo poem, it was a treat to read.

    xxxxx to all of you

I'd be happy to set a blogsite or a facebook page up, unless you think we should contact Brett and ask him for a modificaiton on the FRA (i suspect that's not an option but you never know). Suggestions on how we organise it (original/cited poetry or fellrunning/other subjects) ???

As for my stuff Freckle, my signature has them in (start line, aftermath, dunmail and downhill are the ones I don't cringe at when I read back!)

An ode to Hes is in production.....
