I'm sure there's a joke in there somewhere about only having sex once a decade, but I'm too polite to even think of mentioning it!

Found it! Apologies for lowering the tone of tonight's thread, but I do like this.

A college psychology class was studying human reaction to sexual stimulus and of special interest was the frequency of amorous relations.

''How many students here,'' said the professor, ''engage more than once a week?''
    Five people raised their hands.

''And how many engage once a week?''
    Ten hands went up.

    ''How many twice a month?''
    Eight hands went up.

    ''Once a month?''
    Four hands were raised.

''And how may once a year?''
A little guy in the back waved his hand frantically and giggled hysterically. ''If you engage only once a year,'' said the professor, ''I don't see what you're so overjoyed about.''
Flush with excitement, the little guy said, ''Yeah, but tonight's the night!''

Basically there are variations, but the most common is to have 3 lines that have 5,7 & 5 syllables. Like this...

    Haiku have a five
    syllable line, then seven,
    then another five

    Renewal.

I know it may not feel like it now,
But the future is open to you in all it's infinite beauty,
Renewal incarnate all is yours wow,
The courage to grasp it must become your duty.

You open up like a million different flowers,
Be anything you've ever wanted to be,
Poet or princess all is in your powers,
Want it hard enough it will become reality.

After all you've done the hardest part,
The role that they call mother,
Time soon for your new life to start,
So have fun and create another.

Inspired by Freckles' talk of her apartment and new horizons.

Remember some sketch from years ago were a stuffy, uptight couple are being asked a series of questions to which the reply to everyone is:
'Yes, we tried it once and didn't like it'
The final question is: 'Any Children?'
    The reply..................'Just the one'

    Re: Today's poet

T.S. Eliot - La Figlia che Piange

    O quam te memorem virgo...

STAND on the highest pavement of the stair—
    Lean on a garden urn—
Weave, weave the sunlight in your hair—
Clasp your flowers to you with a pained surprise—
Fling them to the ground and turn
With a fugitive resentment in your eyes:
But weave, weave the sunlight in your hair.

So I would have had him leave,
So I would have had her stand and grieve,
    So he would have left
As the soul leaves the body torn and bruised,
As the mind deserts the body it has used.
    I should find
Some way incomparably light and deft,
Some way we both should understand,
Simple and faithless as a smile and shake of the hand.

She turned away, but with the autumn weather
    Compelled my imagination many days,
    Many days and many hours:
Her hair over her arms and her arms full of flowers.
And I wonder how they should have been together!
I should have lost a gesture and a pose.
    Sometimes these cogitations still amaze
The troubled midnight and the noon’s repose.
