A lancashire company has come a cropper. It seems food production workers are upset that they have to clock in and out to take a leak.
I've seen the item on the TV and the employees and various others seemed to think that the company were taking a liberty.
I actually think the employer is correct.
1. I have seen in a factory production line environment the abuse of the "5 min break".
All the operatives stop for 5 minutes and then get back to start production again, but a few take liberties and drift back sometimes up to 10 minutes late causing disruption and often lost pay for the majority.
2. Why should the employer pay for the worker to sit in the trap for 15 minutes? It is open to abuse - as has been pointed out in 1.
3. Food hygene areas have to be secure. People leaving and entering have to do so in a controlled way.
It seems that Point 3 is the main reason and that this has been in place for 5 years.
When brought in, it also seems that a reasonable loo-break allowance was added to the workers pay, to compensate them.
Problem is, this is fixed and is not open to abuse.
I'm expecting our usual good mix of serious comment and humour on this one
