L side deep muscle pull thingy

Fell off mountain bike 2 weeks ago driving handlebars into left side around kidneys. Sore for a couple of days which then wore off. Raced cyclists v harriers last week and had pain in left side alway round that felt like a stitch. Very sore next day and can feel the area stiffen and contract when I drink, walk etc. Not able to run since as it tugs and I have to stop though can do moderate cycling.

Saw Dr who tested wee for kidney damage (none), can feel area if pushed from the side but if prodded whilst lying down especially from the back (ooh err Missuss) I nearly hit the roof.

Dr diagnosed post title (seriously) and said rest, its getting no better or worse.

Any ideas of what specifically I can do, ie stretches, exercise or massage that might help or can give a more informed diagnosis (a chance to shine CL?). It feels like one of those silly pulls that once addressed correctly will disappear quickly, but will linger if not. Its quite deep and ice does not get near it
