    Calder Valley Round

16 miles and 4000 feet (equal to AL category fell race)

This route has been knocking about as a training run cum challenge in various guises since 1989. It comes of age in 2010! To celebrate its 21 years it now has its own webpage plus a more streamlined course specifically designed to appeal to fell-runners.

It’s a bit different this but it’s all dead simple. Run round the route at any time to suit yourself then, to add a bit of interest and create some friendly competition, log your overall time and club here on this thread.

There are 3 target times to aim for:

    Elite - sub 3-00
    A class – sub 3-30
    Standard – over 3-30

Click here for full details and route sheet

The more that do it the more interesting it will be so get together with fellow forumites/club mates and sort out a date to run it.

Like most worthwhile things in life it all depends on honesty to be a success, so please stick strictly to the route given and do not look for short cuts between the controls!!
Much of the route is on good tracks with just a couple of tricky bits so it should be easy to follow.

All runners take part at their own risk. Although it is a relatively safe route do carry full body cover, food and drink. There is a spring after leaving Stoodley Pike about 100 m to the right before the stile.

If there is enough interest a summary of all 2010 completions can be published on this thread at the end of the year.

Good running in 2010 - enjoy the route!

Note: Calder Valley Fellrunners have no official link with this route - but they are welcome to join in!!

To help get things off the ground I will be leading 2 or 3 runs during the year.
The first will be on Sunday 3rd January at 8.30 from the White Lion car park , Mytholmroyd (see webpage if you need directions).

What better way to get back into gear and kick off the new decade!!

Thanks MM. Dunno this area at all and this could be a great introduction - just the right sort of length for me at the moment.

The South Pennines Oudoor Leisure Map covers the route. Directions to get to the start are on the route sheet you can download from the webpage.
There is a train station at Mytholmroyd

Nice idea and good you're having a run out on what was 'Hebden Weekend'

Think I might try for a 'sub-standard' 4hour target at some point

Yes if you don't know this area it's a great introduction. There aren't many places in England outside the Lakes and Howgills where you can get this sort of climbing in within such a short distance and much of the route is really good going.
