    Yes, good point. I'd say we'll only bat once, but that patently isn't going to happen. It's amazing that England can win a series against the best team in the world with such a dysfunctional top order. That shows the benefit of home conditions.

    What's going to happen in the AC (after Cook) era - the question is now: who's the best player to partner Keaton Jennings? !!

    Have a look at the batting averages in county cricket and pick blokes in form.

    Cook was very good in his time but has been very poor in the last 35 outings.

    If he hung around at the crease for as long as he's hung round the team he might have lasted longer.

    PS i wouldn't pick him for the last test. The series is won give youth a chance.

    The unhelpful thing is that the conditions at the Oval will be nothing like those in the following test matches (in Sri Lanka).

    At least he hadn’t done what Alec Stewart did ie have a farewell series after saying he was re-tiring from playing
