    Re: Olympics 2012

Our son was in charge of transport for all the below and all other artists at both ceremonies, phoned last night with many a tale to tell of major "hissy fits", refusal to sit in a car with A.N.Other, self important "retinues" - went on and on. He said "I spent 20 years in the army and met plenty of knob heads, but some of these.......".

The Spice Girls were no problem at all and David Beckham was the nicest, politeist, least problem to anyone for the whole 2 weeks.

    Re: Olympics 2012

I thoroughly enjoyed the Olympics. I came back from the Dolomites where I'd been incommunicado for a couple of weeks (there was a lot of fencing on the campsite TV for some reason). Imagine my surprsie to find Britain was actually winning everything. The closing ceremony was a wonderful tearjerking nostalgia trip for this (newly) sexuagenarian. Ray Davies singing my favourite song and the pomp of Brian May's guitar (almost equalled by Muse). What a thrill to hear Roger Daltrey singing as well as ever the Tommy songs that could've been composed for the occasion. And how pleased the Saudis will be to have found a solution to their female kit problems. Jessie J was completely covered on both the occasions she sang. Simply following her example will mean Saudi women no longer have to run wearing a deep sea diver's suit!

I was impressed by the Spice Girls performance. They could hardly stand up in those shoes as it was and then they made them stand on top of taxis in them with a microphone in one hand hanging onto a thin rail with the other hand

It didn't stop them taking their hands off the rails to try and wave as well as sing though

Things I missed in the Olympics though read about after were:

They played "Love will tear us apart" a lot during the track/field events ! (I was well sick of Chariots of Fire by the end of the games.)

I saw the little minis on the field but didn't know they were there to return the javelins?

They put videos up for the crowd to silence them at the start of events that used a starting gun including Helen Mirren staring at the camera and saying “Button. It.”
