Not much round me now I've moved from Carlisle way. Nearest is Penrith or Preston. Not horrendous but not very local. Still never done one. Good intentions and all that....

How do people feel on here about Ilkley Moor hosting a Parkrun?
not in favour
Absolutely not in favour!
Erosion of the moor, erosion of local residents goodwill, and too many inexperienced participants liable to be caught out by the weather. Even the lower reaches of the moor, where I presume it is proposed to hold it, are significantly more affected by the elements than at town centre level.
I appreciate you could equally apply all those criteria to the 3 or 4 fell races held on the moor every year, but they aren't held every weekend, and the average experience of those participants in off-road terrain and harsh weather will be greater than your average parkrunner.
Here's my opinion:
I (and I'm sure the majority of Ilkley) don't want crowds of runners turning up on Ilkley Moor every Saturday morning, it's ok for the odd fell race a few times a year but Parkrun is every weekend. People go to the Moor for a quiet run or walk with the dog etc. not to be greeted by a 5k which belongs in a city centre park. Also I fear that attracting more and more people to Ilkley Moor will only add to erosion and lead to more flagstones. Ilkley Moor is not a park and should not be treated as such. We've already got Bradford and Leeds Parkruns which are great events and in-keeping with the surroundings, I don't see why we need one in Ilkley. I've not been to Skipton or Harrogate Parkruns so can't comment on these.
I also fear that the inevitable complaints from locals about the Parkrun could reflect badly on fell runners and the fell races which have been held on Ilkley Moor for many years.

Ilkley Parkrun sounds a great idea to me

It looks like the issue between parkrun and power of 10 has been resolved.
Results from March onwards are being slowly fed into power of 10 and runbritain.
